I first met Shahna a few years ago when she performed at Shimmy Fest. I was able to interview her for Shimmy Cast at the time and I admired her positive attitude about handling people who have negative opinions of belly dance. I was so excited to learn that she was going to be the instructor for Shimmy Fest this year and she was amazing. I learned so much from here and hope to be able to take courses from her in the future.

I've always loved all things art deco. When I saw Tempest perform in person it took my breath away. It was like an art deco painting had come to life before my eyes; it was a treat like no other I've ever experienced.

Aradia from Las Vegas lives up to her name. She taught at Shimmy Fest this year in Fayetteville and the room just radiated with her energy and enthusiasm for the dance.

I met Naima for the first time at a workshop in Buffalo, MO, in 2007. I feel in love with her performance quality. She is so at ease on stage it's just fun to watch. I was thrilled to be a student at her first workshop and the performance she gave at the end of the stage show was like watching a silver-screen dance goddess.

Dinner at My Greek Cafe

Jasmine dances at My Greek Cafe in Memphis, TN. The atmosphere is great; very much like a big family party and she does a lot to foster that feeling by getting nearly everyone up to do a big line dance around the entire restaurant.

I feel getting to take a class from Dalia Carella was a dream come true for me and then to have Amel Tafsout in the class as well as almost too much! I learned so much from each of these ladies. They each have great sense of humor. I truly hope I'll be blessed to meet them again.

I met Moria in Tulsa when she was teaching a Tribal Fusion workshop. I'm not ashamed to admit that her drills kicked my butt, but in a good way. She's a great instructor.

I met Zivah Serpentina at an ATS workshop she was teaching in Buffalo, MO. At that point I was just becoming curious about ATS and after just a few short hours she had me hooked!

Sanjula is one of my Shimmy Cast listeners and when I announced that I was going to be in Chicago for vacation she graciously set up a time for us to have breakfast together. It was so great getting to meet her and talk to her about what dance is like in her area.

Delilah and I first meet Princess Farhana in 2005 at Shimmy Fest in Fayetteville. I'll never forget our first conversation when Farhana departed these words of wisdom on costuming, "I've gotten to the point where anything that sparkles or with an animal print is a neutral." As I've become a more experienced dancer these words have become priceless to me every time I get ready for a performance.
